About Me

My name is Rebecca Templet, but everyone calls me Becky.  I was born in Los Angeles, California and moved to Louisiana at the age of two.  My parents decided to move our family across the country in order to live the small-town life.  Once in school, I realized that I loved learning and as time progressed I realized that I was meant to be a teacher.  I truly believe that teaching is part of who you are rather than something you choose to do, and I know that I was meant to be a teacher.  After graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2002, I began teaching with the Ascension Parish School Board.  My first teaching assignment was a one-year position at Galvez Middle School where I taught eighth grade reading and science.  The last eleven years I have taught at St. Amant Middle School as a reading enrichment teacher for three years and finally a sixth grade English Language Arts teacher for the remaining eight years.  I was selected St. Amant Middle School’s Teacher of the Year for the 2010-11 school year and Ascension Parish Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2012.  It has always been a goal of mine to keep abreast with the changes in education in order to be the best teacher that I can be.  As the education field began to evolve and the incorporation of technology became more and more important, I realized the need to further advance my technology skills.  I enrolled in Southeastern Louisiana University’s cohort program to pursue a master’s degree in educational technology leadership in the fall of 2013.  I hope that what I learn in this masters program will help me better prepare my students for the technology rich world.

Outside of teaching and school, I try to spend as much time as possible with my family.  I married my high school sweat-heart, Ronnie Templet, and together we have two beautiful children, Katelynn and Brady.  One of the benefits of teaching is having summertime to spend with my children.  We take a family summer vacation every year and spend the rest of the time doing various activities (swimming, bike-riding, bowling, going to the movies, etc.).  I try to cherish these times because they are growing up too quickly!
