As a student in high school many years ago, I argued with classmates as they told me I would one day become a teacher. I had my mind set on becoming a chemical engineer, a career that combined two of my favorite subjects, Chemistry and Mathematics.  As I progressed through my first semester of college, many of my new Engineering classmates began to ask me why I was in that class.  They noticed almost immediately in every group assignment or peer-to-peer situation that I enjoyed explaining the material and assignment far better than I did actually completing the task.  By the end of my first semester, I had changed my major to Secondary Mathematics Education.  This was the sweetest crow I had ever eaten; I immediately felt satisfied and fulfilled.

Since that decision in 1996, I have enjoyed teaching many wonderful students in three parishes: Calcasieu, Livingston and Ascension. I have also had the privilege of serving as an Instructional Coach for two years in Ascension Parish at Dutchtown High School where I have professionally resided since 2005.

My husband, Steve, and I have two beautiful daughters: Brooklynn, age 12 and Londynn, age 7. Brooklynn dreams of growing up to be a teacher one day since she has witnessed firsthand the gratification teaching can bring. Londynn dreams of becoming a pediatricion. After all, someone in the family has to make the money. :)

I have found the best way to give advice to your children is to find out what they want and then advise them to do it.
